Swains Cay Lodge

Mangrove Cay sits at the heart of Andros Island, the largest and least populated island in the Bahamas, surrounded by some of the most productive bonefish flats on the planet. Swain's Cay Lodge sits right in the middle of it, nestled between the Middle and South Bights on a white sand beach with gin-clear water in every direction. Andros earned the nickname "Bonefish Capital of the World" for a reason, and Swain's Cay is the ideal base to find out why.

A True Outter Island Experience

Third-Generation Guides

The guides at Swain's Cay are widely regarded as some of the best in the Bahamas. Many come from fishing families with generations of experience on these specific flats, creeks, and bights. Repeat clients come back year after year, and the guides are a big reason why.

The Largest Flats System in the Bahamas

Andros is one of the only islands in the Bahamas surrounded by fishable flats. Swain's Cay sits between the Middle and South Bights with direct access to both, plus a 40-minute run to the legendary West Side for big bonefish and seasonal tarpon and permit.

Beach-Front, Built for Anglers

Beachfront suites, ocean view rooms, a 3-bedroom apartment equipped with wifi. anglers can expect exceptional Bahamian cuisine, a small fly shop, complimentary kayaks, bikes, and snorkel gear to use as they wish. An iconic cash bar to close out the day with fish stories from the trip.

Easy Access from Nassau, True Outter Island Feel

Fly into Nassau, connect to Mangrove Cay (MAY), and you're at the lodge in 15 minutes. The logistics are clean, the travel is manageable, and the experience on the other end is pure Bahamas Out Island. No crowds, no traffic, no interruptions.

the lodge experience

Swain's Cay Lodge sits on the eastern shore of Mangrove Cay on a pristine white sand beach, flanked by swaying coconut palms and overlooking flat, clear water in every direction. The lodge has 15 units and 32 beds, ranging from Beachfront Suites and Ocean View Suites to Twin Garden View Rooms and a three-bedroom duplex apartment with a 360-degree terrace. Every room is air-conditioned, tastefully appointed with the spirit of Mangrove Cay in mind, and designed to give you somewhere worth coming back to after a long day on the water. The kitchen is run by a devoted Bahamian cook whose specialty is native seafood cuisine, including what many guests call the best fresh conch salad in the world. Breakfasts are made to order, lunches are packed for the water, and dinners are a proper sit-down affair. A cash bar, complimentary kayaks, and bicycles round out the on-property experience.

Typical Itineraries

Fishing weeks at Swain's Cay typically run Saturday to Saturday. Travel day one brings you into Nassau, where you take a short connector flight to Mangrove Cay (Anglers coming from Florida can fly directly into Mangrove). Fishing days start with a made-to-order breakfast before heading out with your guide. You'll fish primarily from the skiff in one to three feet of water across the Middle and South Bights, with wading opportunities on the harder-bottomed flats when conditions are right. Lunch is packed and served on the water. Afternoons continue the hunt before returning to the lodge for a proper dinner, a drink at the bar, and whatever the day produced worth talking about. The West Side of Andros is a 40-minute run and worth it for the right conditions. Evenings on the beach close out days you won't forget.

Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit, & more

Andros is known as the Bonefish Capital of the World and the fish here back that up. The white, soft-bottomed flats of the Middle and South Bights produce exceptional visibility for sight fishing, and the average size of bonefish in Andros runs larger than nearly any other destination in the world. Resident tarpon ranging from 20 to 60 pounds are found year-round in central Andros, with larger migratory fish pushing through from March through September. Permit patrol the deeper flats and reward anglers who come prepared with heavy crab patterns and a practiced cast. Beyond the big three, barracuda, triggerfish, snapper, and jacks are all in the mix. Bluewater trips targeting marlin, wahoo, tuna, and mahi can be arranged in advance for those who want to go offshore.
