Great Inagua is the southernmost island in the Bahamas, closer to Cuba than to Nassau, and its remoteness is exactly what protects the fishing. These flats see almost no pressure. You will find bonefish in real numbers across untouched shallows, with resident tarpon, permit, and snook giving the water a genuine grand slam character. Barracuda, jacks, mutton snapper, and triggerfish round out the days when you want to chase something different.
Inagua Outback Lodge sits on a quiet stretch of beach on the south side of the island, about fifteen miles from Matthewtown, hosting no more than six anglers at a time in two cottages just steps from the water. The pace is unhurried. Days open with a full breakfast, move into a packed lunch out on the flats, and close with Bahamian dinner back at the lodge, served in a dining room set right at the water's edge. A central bar and kitchen anchor the gathering spaces, and a beachfront pavilion is there for the hours between sessions.
Access is part of the appeal. Guides run South Dade skiffs to cover ground and reach distant water, paddleboards to slip into skinny shallows without a sound, and an off-road truck that opens up the island's remote interior flats and its wilder edges.
