THE BARRACUDA EXPERIENCE
Scan the edge of a flat and you may catch a long, still shadow holding just off the sand, waiting. A fast, erratic strip drawn past its nose triggers something instant, and the barracuda tracks the fly for a beat before crushing it in a violent burst of speed. Once hooked, it tears across the flat and often clears the water entirely, cartwheeling against the sky. Clear, warm shallows and a wire-rigged fly give you the best shot at one of the fastest, most explosive eats in skinny water.

Best Destinations for barracuda
Barracuda Techniques
Fly Fishing
Precise shots must be delivered quickly and worked erratically. Opt for a needlefish or larger baitfish presentation to catch the attention of the flats giants.
Casting Lures
Long casts with a quick retrieve warrant best results. Cuda tube's or topwater plugs with inline hooks produce the highest success rates.
Sight Fishing
Although aggressive, Barracuda can be spooky if not presented a bait properly. Casting past the fish and working the bait by the tip of the nose will provide best results.
