Rio Bravo Fishing Lodge

Rio Bravo sits directly on the Paraná River in Santa Fe, one hour by air from Buenos Aires. It's a rare setup: golden dorado on one of South America's great rivers, paired with world-class wingshooting from the same lodge. You'll fish for river tigers in the morning and be back at the pool by afternoon. Twelve months a year, with the best dorado window running August through February.

The River

The Paraná is the second-longest river in South America, and Rio Bravo sits directly on it. This is a working dorado fishery, not a lodge that happens to be near water. Golden dorado hold here year-round, which means the guides fish the same stretches season after season and know exactly where fish stage as conditions change. You'll fish from boats with guides who read the river for a living. Fly or conventional tackle, both work, and nobody is going to make you justify your choice. Pacú and other river species round out the days when you want a break from chasing dorado.

The Combination

Very few lodges do fishing and wingshooting equally well, and most that claim to are really doing one and tolerating the other. Rio Bravo is genuinely built for both. The same region that produces the dorado fishery produces enormous numbers of ducks, doves and perdiz, and the lodge runs full programs for each. That means you can build a week that's all river, all field, or split down the middle, and it also means a group that can't agree on what kind of trip they want doesn't have to agree. One person fishes, another shoots, everybody's back at the same table for dinner. Perdiz can be added to any itinerary.

The Lodge

Eight double bedrooms, all with private baths, and enough common space that a full lodge never feels crowded. There's a mezzanine over the river with a card room and reading area, a wine cellar, a fire pit, a jacuzzi and pool, and a massage room for after a long day on the water. The fishing dock is on property. Meals are gourmet, the bar is open, and Argentine wines are included throughout. Wi-Fi runs through the whole building if you need to stay reachable. A partner or friend who isn't fishing has plenty of reason to come along.

Rio Bravo's Cast & blast program

The Cast & Blast program splits four full days between the river and the dove fields, two of each, though the schedule flexes if you'd rather weight it one direction. Dorado are the draw on the water: heavy, fast, and airborne the moment they eat. The dove shooting is high volume, with bird boys working alongside you the entire time. Everything runs from the same lodge. No repacking, no second transfer, no compromise between the angler in your group and the shooter. You'll come off the water, clean up, and be back out with a shotgun before the light goes. Season runs August through April. Four full days, five nights, with guides, meals, beverages and transfers included.
